The Pearlescent One
Chapter One
Part One
It was a cold November day as the first rain began to fall. The ground was so cold and hard as it crushed under her feet when she walked. Cloe was in such a hurry to make it to work on time. that she forgot to shut her headlights off in her truck. She had been late for the last 3 days . and if she did it one more time, she was sure they would say something to her. So she ran in the door with a few seconds to spare. Her boss was standing in her station doing her job, As the customers were already lined up. "Nice you could make it on time today Cloe." Tim said." I didn't think you were coming." "oh, i am so sorry. I keep getting stuck in the road construction no matter which road I take. " That was not true but Cloe couldn't tell him the reason she had such a hard time getting there. "I hope you don't make this A habit. Cloe, rules are rules. You are an extremely hard worker. but corporate comes down on me if i let even the slightest thing go. So don't do it again." " Thanks Tim. I won't , and i am sorry." Tim left, and Cloe finished ringing up the customers in line.
She was so glad that she still had a job. That was the one thing she couldn't afford to lose in her life right now. with all of the other things going on she needed to be grounded somewhere. The department store always got busier during the holiday's and when Oprah mentioned anything they sold on her show. they would sell out. Cloe was just glad that when she was hired, she had them put in her contract that she would work any holiday. but not the day after thanksgiving. The department Store scheduled her for every single holiday except for the one she requested. And that in itself gave her job security. No one was going to want her to get fired when she was the only one willing to work all day on Thanksgiving and Christmas eve. To many people had family's that they wanted to be with. but that was not a problem for Cloe. She wanted to work so she didn't even have to see them. So when her moms family, or her dads family would ask, where's Cloe. Her parents would respond with "she had to work." her brothers and sister in laws wouldn't even think twice after they got the answer. and would continue with their usual agendas. Cloe hated that they all had one. she would have given anything to just hang out with her brothers and have fun. with out all of the putting her down for everything she does.
A rather hot looking guy put A little silver kettle on her counter. Cloe rang him up as she made small talk with him. He didn't look the part to be buying A kettle. he looked like he should be on a stage somewhere playing a guitar. He began to flirt with her. He gave her the sultry smoldering fire eyed look that only A few guys in the world could pull off. and she melted. So Cloe asked him if he was a musician. and he said he was. "So what is A musician doing with a tea kettle. Do you have tea after your done playing your guitar?" He laughed at her and said, "Not exactly. this kettle is for my little old granny. she makes my band Hot Cocoa." Cloe laughed. "You don't look the part to be drinking Hot Cocoa, I expected mudslides at the very least." He gave her a wink. Cloe felt her heart ache as though she could feel the heat rush through her veins. She wondered if he could feel it in his too. He leaned in close and said "The names Tyler and you assume way to much. Like you probably think I'm going to walk out of here without your name and number. oh and by the way i don't play guitar. I'm a drummer boy." " well, drummer boy here's your bag." Cloe extended it out to him shaking. Tyler just grinned.
"well I guess ill be seeing you again!" " It looks like it."Cloe said. and with that he left. oh crap, she thought. i should have gave him my number. but then she remembered why she didnt.....
